We are frequently asked about how we create our wedding & engagement photos. But, more specifically we are asked about what type of equipment we shoot with. Of course, I (Mathew) being a complete gear head can’t stop talking about equipment and find myself constantly answering equipment questions online and in person. So to share our photography gear experience, we put together this comprehensive “What’s in your wedding photography bag” resource for other photographers considering the same gear that our studio uses!
On our never-ending quest for photographic nirvana, we have certainly purchased and sold many pieces of equipment. Occasionally we will land on a gem that works incredibly well for our desired results. However – what we have found more often – is over-hyped, under-performing equipment. We have also come across equipment that worked very well for it’s price point, but did not meet our ultimate photography goals (which we will be reviewing here as well). Although we use and love Canon cameras, we carry a variety of lens brands in our bag.
Wedding photography can be an amazing opportunity to create captivating and heartfelt photographs. As professional wedding photographers we understand that this opportunity exists for only a moment and there are no redos. We rely on our gear, and have found processes that work best for us. We obviously don’t have a testing lab and won’t be splitting hairs over specs designed to sell equipment. Instead we focus on our real life wedding photography experience and how each piece of gear performs when we need it most!
